Okanagan Regional Library - Kelowna Branch - side building

We need your help!
As of February, Friends of the Library received the devastating news that after 15 years the City of Kelowna will be demolishing our Barlee Road home and sorting facility in summer to make way for parkland. We must vacate the house as of June. In the months since we have not found any alternate location or even leads. Friends of the Library are trying every means we can to alert the community of our plight and needs.

Furthermore, as of April 15, we will no longer be taking book donations from the public nor the withdrawals from the Okanagan Regional Library. Not having the capacity to take books, store and sort them, we cannot conduct book sales and therefore cannot fundraise in support of Okanagan Regional Library, our primary objective over the last 30 years! It also means we cannot facilitate the circulation of gently used books around the community instead of books going to the landfill or recycling. In desperate times, we are willing to compromise on what we need for sorting and storage. Our basic needs are a permanent not temporary, space about 300-1000 sq feet.

The Kelowna Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization formed in 1988, is registered under the Society Act of British Columbia and the Canada Income Tax Act. The Friends' mission is to raise funds to support the Okanagan Regional Library in general and the three Kelowna area Branches in particular-Kelowna,Mission and Rutland – to enhance the profile of our libraries in the community and increase awareness and use of library programs and services.
Kelowna Friends of the Library Executive meetings are rotated between the three branch libraries, at 5:30 pm on the second Monday of most months (except January, July and August). The Annual General Meeting is held every November.
Our major fundraiser, the Great Okanagan Book Sale takes place typically in October each year. The Kelowna Friends of the Library also host other sales, public meetings and author events throughout the year.
